Lee and Branden at the double
Article Posted: 23rd April 2012
It was a win-win situation in the Far East as Branden Grace completed a hat-trick and Lee Westwood gave himself an early birthday present.
While Branden was claiming his third title of the season, Lee, who turns 39 on Tuesday, was successfully defending his Indonesian Masters title in Jakarta.
The double celebration and other high finishes made it another superb week for ISM golfers and the season is still in its infancy with most of the top titles still to play for.
Branden is enjoying the kind of debut season made only from dreams. Two wins in South Africa at the beginning of the season - the second against a world class field of champions - have now been followed by triumph in the Volvo China Open.
A three-shot victory means that Branden is continuing to knock on ever bigger doors and I am sure that every one of them will be open to him in the very near future.
It was great to see Richard Finch showing the kind of form that we all know he is capable of on a regular basis with a third-place finish thanks to a closing 66 while George Coetzee was tied fourth, once again outlining his huge potential.
First round leader Matthew Baldwin also enjoyed another impressive week on his debut season by finishing in the top 15 while Joost Luiten was another top 20 hit.
Meanwhile in Jakarta, Lee started and finished like he would prefer to see his racehorses in front. A wire-to-wire success will have given him another shot of confidence heading towards a busy summer on both sides of the Atlantic.
Lee had to play 32 holes on the final day in extremely testing conditions but he could even afford to close with a 74 and still cruise to victory.
It was also good to see Shiv Kapur back in top form as he finished in third while Anirban Lahiri was a highly creditable fifth.
