If Lee Westwood’s win at Sun City surprised anybody, it certainly wasn’t me.

My Twitter followers were given a heads up before the Nedbank Challenge started and Lee was as good as my word in South Africa.

No wonder Lee loves the place and Simon Dyson went so far as to mention Gary Player’s course in the same breath as Augusta National on his debut there. It really was in excellent condition

Simon gave a good account of himself, but the event as a tournament was just about signed, sealed and delivered to Worksop on Saturday when Lee came in with a third round 62, a new course record and the best return of the day by seven shots.

It also gave Lee a seven-shot lead going into the final round and even though on Sunday he was 11 shots worse than his previous day’s return, a 73 was still good enough to give him a two-stroke win and a big Christmas bonus.

If Lee left Sun City feeling a million dollars, he knows he can double up this week with a win in the final event of the season as the Road to Dubai dead ends.

The season’s pecking order is decided in the Emirates (what an airline as well) and we have a strong representation headed by Lee and our two major champions of 2011, Charl Schwartzel and Darren Clarke.

Talking of representatives, we may well have several more travelling the world next year as Allan Versfeld, Sunshine Tour rookie of the year, Matt Nixon, James Robinson, Scott Pinckney and Michael Lorenzo-Vera all made it through to Q School finals where they will be united with seven other ISM players.
