What a weekend for Lee Westwood.   Victory in the Indonesian Masters in Jakarta took him back to the pinnacle of golf.

Lee had only one thing on his mind when he arrived in the Far East – winning on his 38th birthday.  And that’s exactly what he achieved – a three-shot triumph over Thongchai Jaidee eventually good enough to take him back to world No.1.

I say eventually because Lee’s Ryder Cup colleague Luke Donald could have overtaken both Lee and Martin Kaymer in the rankings had he won at Hilton Head.

But Luke just came up short, being beaten by Brandt Snedeker at the third hole of a sudden-death play-off in South Carolina.

So Lee is back on top after first taking over from Tiger Woods late last year.  And how good it is to see three Europeans including two Englishmen topping a pecking order which has been American dominated for the last decade.

It was good to see Richard Finch and Jeev Milkha Singh back in good form as they both finished in the top 10 at the Volvo China Open.  Richard fired a closing course record equalling 64, later broken again with Pablo Martin's 63,  while Jeev showed touches of his old self after an injury-packed year.

And finally congratulations to Bolton Wanderers, who I am sure Sir Alex Ferguson was also toasting at the weekend after all but ending Arsenal’s Premiership challenge.  Oh! To be a Wanderer.
