Watch for George Coetzee come flying in under the radar this year.
The exploits of two-time 2012 champion Branden Grace and grand slam title winners Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen may have overshadowed their fellow South African of late, but watch for George to make the headlines soon.
The world number 74 showed the kind of consistency in Abu Dhabi that is the hallmark of his game and I expect him to be challenging on a regular basis throughout the season.
We didn’t have a No.1 in the Middle East but we did have plenty of top 20 hits – George leading the way in sixth place behind Robert Rock’s outstanding performance in beating many major champions.
Romain Wattel is another who you can expect to hear much more of this year and he came in 14th while Lee Westwood, Charl Schwartzel. Simon Dyson and James Kingston were all close behind.
Even though our win-win-win start to the season was interrupted, it was still a fine effort from our entrants... and expect more of the same this week in Qatar.
Former US Amateur champion Peter Uihlein can be proud of his first start in the paid ranks – finishing joint 12th alongside fellow American Dodge Kemmer at the Gujarat Kensville Challenge in India. Our top billing there went to Chris Lloyd and Shiv Kapur, who were both in the top 10.
