Another great week in St.Andrews saw all at ISM toasting Simon Dyson for the biggest win of his career. Simon produced some scintillating golf throughout the week during the prestigious Dunhill Links held at the home of golf plus Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.
The Yorkshireman left everybody in his slipstream as he started the final round with five birdies in the first six holes. It was his to win or lose and he triumphed in considerable style.
There was plenty for everybody to celebrate because immediately behind Simon was Rory McIlroy and an amazing five other ISM players filled places in the top 10. A total of seven players in the top 10 including the top two is a record we can be very proud of.
Coming home sixth was Ross McGowan, who is enjoying a profitable and exciting autumn while Darren Clarke, who played beautifully all week, continued his return to form with a top 10 which will kick start his rise towards the world’s top 50 again.
Gary Lockerbie needed a good finish in Scotland and got one when he joined Paul McGinley and Lee Westwood in ninth place.
Mention of Lee prompts me to register that as a team we made the cut, our prime objective at the start of the week. I was delighted to spend all four rounds in his company, but it was a very tiring one even though Sunday’s round was blown out by 75mph gusts. A brilliant week in all and we’ll definitely be back for more next year.
On the other side of the Atlantic, Jeev Milkha Singh had a very profitable week at the Turning Stone Resort Championship. His seventh place finish was a vital result in the race for PGA Tour cards.
I expect our terrific late-season run to continue this week in Spain so hopefully there will be plenty more good news to report next week.
