What a wonderful two days for ISM and South Africa. Louis Oosthuizen booked his ticket to The Masters by winning The Open de Andalucia de Golf and then watched as his mentor Ernie triumphed at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Florida a day later.
Louis, a graduate of Ernie’s Foundation in South Africa, upstaged his hero in one respect – winning by three shots from another ISM client Richard Finch - while Ernie was two shots clear at the close of a weather-delayed tournament in Orlando.
Ernie completed back to back wins in Orlando after winning his second WGC event in Miami a fortnight earlier. It took him to seventh in the world rankings while Louis climbed into the top 50. The only way is up for our players at the moment.
Finchy had another excellent tournament and I’m sure his upward graph will continue while Holland’s Joost Luiten is also making rapid forward strides highlighted by a top 6 finish in Spain.
I am also delighted to mention David Howell for an excellent week in Spain – registering four rounds in the 60’s to claim a top 20 place that have been all too rare of late. I’m sure there will be plenty more to follow.
All eyes now are on Houston where the build-up to Augusta starts in earnest with our Ernest bidding for a hat trick.
