Just like London buses, when a win comes along for Lee Westwood, the next one isn’t far behind.
So after his triumph in the Indonesian Masters, Lee travelled to Korea and promptly knocked off the Ballantine’s there to cement his place at the top of the world rankings.
That puts Lee in eighth place on the all-time list for most weeks at No.1 and look at the company he is keeping – Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Vijay Singh, , Ian Woosnam are the only other players who have been on top for longer.
It is a testimony not only to how good Lee is, but just how much hard work he has put in over the years to get where he is today. No young golfer could have a better role model than the Worksopian, who edged Ryder Cup colleague Miguel Angel Jimenez into second place with a brilliant last round.
Many eyes will be focussed on America this week because Rory McIlroy returns to the scene of his fantastic success and first American win last year at Quail Hollow.
Rory already has a huge following in the States and will attract even more if he can repeat his victory of last year against a very good field.
I’ll be hoping to savour some of his efforts for a repeat win before moving on to Jacksonville for Ernie Els’s induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame prior to the Players’ Championship.
I’ll bring you more news and everything else ISM next week and you can always follow my travels on Twitter @chubby6665.
