Charl Schwartzel and Lee Westwood carry our main chances going into the final round of the US PGA. Charl posted an immaculate and bogey-free 66 in the third round to move into the top 10 while Lee clung on to the outside edge of the leaderboard needing a big finish to record his first major and our fourth in a row.
It was another day of toil and frustration for Lee as he saw putt after putt miss by fractions. He said something like: ‘It’s doing my head in,’ when he finished and I can totally understand. Nobody plays better tee to green, but putting remains a mystery to the two-time European Tour order of merit winner.
Simon Dyson also suffered on the greens but he is having another good US PGA and will spring into major contention next year. Of that I am certain.
There were a lot of unfamiliar faces on top of the leaderboard heading into the last day at Atlanta Athletic Club. Steele, Dufner and Bradley were the top 3 but I have a fancy somebody will come storming through the field.
