Lee Joins Rainbow Boys Flying Flag

My weekly column will be draped with the South African flag this week, but first congratulations to a very proud Englishman.

Lee Westwood has moved to his highest ever world ranking... and I wouldn’t back against him climbing above the third spot he now commands.   Indeed he is in a great position to challenge for number one this summer if things continue as they are at the moment.

Now back to South Africa, or should I say England’s Craig Kieswetter.  The Somerset wicketkeeper-batsman, who was born in Johannesburg, was man-of-the-match as England whipped Australia to become world Twenty20 champions for the first time.  Well done Craig.    I’m sure he’ll be challenging for a national position in other forms of the game very soon.

Back to the number three position, however, because that’s where Ernie Els eventually finished in a rain-affected Texas Open last week.  Ernie is back to the form that won him two tournaments earlier in the season and I think he will be adding to that number before long.

Number 3 was also where James Kingston finished in Mallorca last week while Chris Wood was a very encouraging 5th.   I expect both to feature this week at Wentworth when the spotlight falls on Ernie’s re-vamp of the West Course.   Should be very interesting.
