China First On Travel Channel

It’s been all-go and there will be plenty more trips before the end of the year. Life’s never dull

There is only word that aptly describes our whistle-stop tour of China – unbelievable.

I feel like I’ve seen more beds than Hypnos this last week after accompanying Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter and local hero Lian Wenchong on their seven-city, seven-night tour around the world’s most-populated country.

The trip which included Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Beijing, Chongqing and Macau saw the intrepid four play a few holes every day and help spread the word about the game which will be included in the Olympic Games in 2016.

To that end, the players were all given caddies in their early teens who will no doubt surface again as the Team China in Brazil five summers from now.  At one venue more than 5,000 people turned out just to watch the players navigate two holes, such is the growing interest of sport in the country.   It’s going to make for great television when it airs later this year in nine half-hour programmes.

The bed-hopping didn’t stop in China because as soon as our week finished, I was on a 25-hour trip to Bermuda to watch Darren Clarke, Charl Schwartzel, Rory and US PGA champion Keegan Bradley compete in the Grand Slam winners’ annual shoot-out – honours eventually going to the American.

Charl made a great late surge with a stunning second round, but came up just short.   But his name will feature plenty more in the coming years.

Now I’m in Dubai with my kids after completing a 30,000-mile marathon since leaving Manchester 11 days ago.  It’s been all-go and there will be plenty more trips before the end of the year.  Life’s never dull.
