Let’s hear it for Florentyna Parker – our first ever female champion.
Just two weeks before her 21st birthday, Flory had something special to celebrate with a two-shot win in the ABN AMRO Ladies Open in Holland.
The stunning success not only rocketed Flory to fourth in the Ladies European Tour money list, but also puts her high in the standings of Solheim Cup hopefuls. And with the Women’s British Open on her home course of Royal Birkdale this summer, who knows what’s in store for the teaching professional’s daughter. Plenty more of the same I fancy.
On the Challenge Tour Danny Denison came in a tie for 2nd at the Karnten Golf Open in Austria. This is a great result for Danny and shows he is definitely back in form after his car accident two years ago.
Elsewhere, there was plenty to suggest our boys are coming into form at just the right time for the year’s second major. There is something very special about Pebble Beach and I’m sure ISM’s representatives will give a good account of themselves in the US Open.
Rory McIlroy once again showed how quickly he has come to terms with life on the PGA Tour with a top 10 finish at The Memorial while Simon Dyson was back to his best for a couple of rounds at Celtic Manor.
While Ernie Els prepares for his bid for a hat trick of US Open titles at home in Florida, Lee Westwood will be in Memphis shaking off jet lag and honing his tournament edge after a little break to recharge the batteries.
Majors come thick and fast at this time of year and I’m looking forward to every one of them. We have never been better placed to collect at least one of the top titles.
