Touch And Go For Lee

Hopefully he will be back in time to face America at Celtic Manor

If I had a pound for every time I’ve been asked if Lee Westwood will be fit for the Ryder Cup, I’d be able to spend a long holiday on a very remote island.

For the few of you who haven’t ventured forward on this front, the answer has to be that Lee is touch and go to make Colin Montgomerie’s team. Lee knew he risked prolonging the problem when he started playing again not long after the calf area muscle problem flared up in France.  But with The Open so close, who was going to blame him.

It was during the second round at the WGC Bridgestone that Lee discovered he would have to succumb and get the total rest first prescribed.   Hopefully he will be back in time to face America at Celtic Manor.

While Lee made an early exit from Firestone, two of our younger clients continued their recent run of fine form.   Open champion Louis Oosthuizen and Rory McIlroy both finished in the top 10 while Ernie Els fell victim to his putter after starting the final round right in the hunt.   I expect the three to be in strong contention for this week’s US PGA Championship, the season’s final major.

The three along with Lee and Charl Schwartzel will be in the running to win the European Tour’s order of merit so much is at stake between now and the final lap of The Race to Dubai.

It’s going to be intriguing this week in Wisocnsin because with Tiger Woods in disarray, Phil Mickelson having trouble getting to No.1 and Lee sidelined, the door is open for somebody else to make a run and claim the top ranking.

Don’t back against one of our boys coming through again.
