Not quite the attendance we were looking for at the weekend, but we still have a strong four-ball at the US PGA.
Lee Westwood leads our chasing pack in 14th place just four shots off the pace at halfway and he is looking for a very strong finish and a first major championship.
If Lee comes through then we will have completed an ISM grand slam in a year which has already been our greatest in history whatever happens at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
Hoping to push Lee and everybody else all the way will be Simon Dyson, who is in the form of his career and, unlike many, loves the hot temperatures normal for America in August. The heat index here has been mid-90’s all week and it doesn’t look like it will be any cooler over the weekend.
Simon, who recently added the Irish Open crown to his collection, made his name in the heat and humidity of the Far East and has looked far more comfortable and most in the tough conditions. Look for him to advance today.
Hoping to make up for disappointing second rounds will be Charl Schwartzel, who started the day in a tie for 42nd and right arm injury victim Rory McIlroy, who is playing through the pain.
There are a lot of names not normally associated with the leaderboard at this stage of a major, but I am expecting many more familiar ones to emerge today in challenging positions.
