Busy Times

Posted: 25th May 2011

Hi there everyone, sorry it’s been a while but the time is just flying right now!

It was certainly a fun week at the Masters, I didn’t play very well but it was great seeing Charl getting the win there and slipping on that special jacket. I was at the airport and the very nice airline delayed the plane by an hour so I could watch the finish.

We went to Kuala Lumpur after August to play in the Malaysian Open and although it was a very steamy hot week we had a good time. I played with Charl for the four rounds so we really enjoyed that.

Three weeks on the farm in South Africa was just wonderful – nothing golf related and just working on the farm was nice and just gets the head away from concentrating on anything too intense. In fact, my brother and myself have gone into cattle breeding - luckily he knows a lot about it so it means I have a lot to learn!

We then went back to America for the Players Championship at Sawgrass – I really like that golf course but that 17th green is very small and I did managed to put it in the water on one of the days. It’s probably the shortest, scariest par three that we ever play! I could have played better but after three weeks off there was a bit of rust in the game.

I then went off to Spain to play in the Volvo World Match Play Championship at Finca Cortesin in Spain where I did not play at all well in the first round and lost to Graeme McDowell three and two. I played well the second day but lost one down to Jhonattan Vegas and I was really disappointed not to make it through to the next round.

We’re now at Wentworth and have been working with my coach, Pete, and the game is feeling good and hopefully there will be a good result here before my next few weeks in the USA. We went to the European Tour Awards Dinner last night which was a great evening. It was fantastic seeing the winning Ryder Cup team there and of course, Charl wearing his green jacket.

I’m playing the Memorial at Muirfield Village next week which I’m really looking forward to as I haven’t played that event before. I think that Charl is doing a clinic with Jack Nicklaus which I would love to go and watch – it’ll be very funny because Charl will be so nervous!!

I’ve been busy organising a trip to Dubai for my four best Juniors which I think they will really enjoy. We’re going to try and play Ernie’s course, Emirates and a few others. Hopefully the base will be at the Emirates Club where Pete Cowen’s academy is located – it would be fantastic if Pete can have a look at them, especially on the short game front.

That’s all from me right now and I’ll report in again soon. Cheers, Louis.
