Background

One of a number of talented young players to emerge from South Africa. Louis had a successful 2007 in his homeland with three wins in total throughout the year.

Louis was member of the Ernie Els Foundation in South Africa, receiving help and inspiration from the former European Tour Number One.

He won the Irish Amateur Open Championship and a member of the South African team, alongside fellow European Tour Member Charl Schwartzel, which won the World Junior Team Championships in 2000. Louis comes from a strong tennis family with his father and brother both playing tennis at a provincial level but opted for golf.

In 2010 Louis won his first European Tour event, the Open de Andalucia de Golf. He followed that up with his first major championship, the 139th Open Championship played over the Old Course at St Andrews. He won by a massive seven shots.

Louis won for the fourth time on the European Tour when he successfully defended his Africa Open title in 2012. He added the Maybank Malaysian Open to his CV in April of that year.

A resident and member of Old Palm Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida since 2012, Louis utilizes the Club’s 33-acre practice facilities and Raymond Floyd-designed golf course to accelerate game improvement. Louis resides in Old Palm’s Golf Estates when playing in North American PGA Tour events.
